Health Not Hype is a national public education campaign led by the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) to empower patients with trusted, evidence-based information about obesity care.
As new treatments like GLP-1 medications transform how obesity and related chronic conditions are managed, a growing wave of compounded alternatives—often sold online or through telehealth platforms—has created confusion and potential risks for patients. Many of these compounded products are not reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for safety, quality, or effectiveness, raising serious concerns about dosing accuracy, ingredients, and overall patient safety.
Health Not Hype was created to close this information gap.
Our mission is simple: replace misinformation and marketing hype with clear, science-backed guidance so patients can make informed decisions about their health. We provide accessible education, amplify expert voices, share real patient experiences, and work with community leaders, clinicians, and policymakers to promote safe, effective, and equitable obesity care.
This work is especially critical for communities of color and underserved populations, who often face greater barriers to accessing high-quality care and are more vulnerable to misleading health information.
Through national outreach, digital storytelling, and partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem, Health Not Hype helps patients understand the difference between FDA-approved treatments and unregulated alternatives—so they can work with their healthcare providers to choose therapies that are safe, effective, and right for them.
Because when it comes to your health, you deserve facts—not hype.
